Shibori (絞り染め Shiborizome?) is a Japanese term for several methods of dyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing it, or capping. Some of these methods are known in the West as tie-dye. The gift is part of a series of textiles donated by Hoshino and in the gift box was a card hand written by her which reads: "Beloved Italian family, Thank you for many warm hearts. I plan it in various ways in Japan. A dream in reality." 2012.12.9 There is also a brochure from the Japanese textile-fashion of Hoshinos family (Kyokane).
