Visual Communication in Architectural Environment: Advertising in the Historical City Centers

EACH WORKSHOP IS MADE UP BY 3 DIFFERENT PHASES:

1) BEFORE the workshop: each group of university students from a different country must prepare a preliminary work, to be presented in Florence.

2) DURING the workshop there will be formed different international mixed groups of students; each international group will present a final work at the end of the week.

3) AFTER the workshop: once coming back home, each national group of university students will prepare a final version of the project.

AFTER THE WORKSHOP

1. ROMUALDO DEL BIANCO FOUNDATION
At first we would like to say our BIG THANKS to the Foundation for giving us the opportunity to see the beautiful town of Florence.(picture 1) Anna Dimitrova

2. SEE AND LEARN
This was not only a good opportunity to visit so many historical places but also to learn many things about the way of advertising in the historical city centers. We found out that there are no billboards or any other kind of advertisement on the facades of the historical buildings, and we admired some excellent examples of signification of conservation activities.(picture 2) Vesela Kostova

3. FRIENDSHIP
Another very exiting thing of this workshop was that we had the chance to meet many other students from different countries, exchange knowledge and make many new friends.(picture 3) Gergina Simeonova

4. EXPLORE TOGETHER
We think that those workshops are very important and useful for all the future specialists. They are the best way to learn more things of the world history by exploring the historical buildings that we all have already studied in history lessons at our Universities. (picture 4) Marinela Georgieva

5. WORK IN TEAM
But all the time we kept in mind the theme of our workshop. We studied the different types of visual communication in Florence. The information signs for example are all over the city, they are so clear that there’s no chance to lose your way. (picture 5) Plamen Trifonov

6. ANALYZE
But we also found out that there are many, many forbidden things. In spite of being reasonable, they sometimes makes you feel unpleasant. (picture 6) Silvia Oumnikova

7. THE ENLIGHTENMENT
Finally, after seeing so much, we understood that the architecture, the buildings themselves, the atmosphere they create, the streets, the river, the whole natural environment of a town, all these are a kind of advertisement. (picture 7) Vladimir Changulev

8. CONCLUSION
So there is no point of putting any other advertisements in a historical city center. With its unique characteristics and its buildings – symbols that form the impression of a beautiful and unforgettable town, Florence is one of the most significant ones we had ever seen. (picture 8) Nikolai Chatalbashev

Why don’t we look at our home cities with these eyes and try to reveal that special beauty sometimes hidden beneath the advertisement panels?
