  Brief description of the initiative:

The phenomenon "Florence" on the horizon of the contemporary global culture contains immense powers of inspiration, at the same time performing as the medium of humanistic-ethical heritage. In order to accept, comprehend, and embrace the art of traditions, our modern art-education has to make a significant and uneasy effort. An image in motion (the screen of a computer, TV screen, movie theater) causes an antrophy of the human capabilities, which are related to observation, deformation of the perceptive facilities, which are necessary to the sensitive reception of a static object (artifact).
The proposed workshop "From Masacio to Marini", Heritage of Figurative Visual Art was based on the actual study of artifacts in the galleries (Ufizzi, Accademia, Bargello, Museo Marino Marini), museums, cathedrals and churches (Santa Croce, Santa Maria Novella, and others), and of those located in exterior, in Florence's magnificent space.

The framework of study was divided into three main working sections:

  • a) Admiration, cognitive process and identification

  • b) Analysis of shape and composition

  • c) Interpretation and paraphrase

The artistic medium - Drawing - was used in all of the facets and in all of the varieties of the wide range of existing techniques (charcoal, sepia lead, sanguine, ink, pastel, watercolor, etc.). Since drawing is the basic "nerve" of each artist's working process, the workshop is open to sculptors, painters, printmakers, conservators/restores, designers, basically to all of the art professions. The proposed program required full involvement of each participant, during the whole day, even during the scheduled visits of Florence's galleries and museums, thus reducing the leisure time to a minimum.
