  Brief description of the initiative:

First Florence Edition 2003
International Show Competition of Graduate Projects of Architectural Institutes and Faculties
of Commonwealth Independent States, Palagio di Parte Guelfa, 3rd - 6th December 2003

On proposal of the Foundation, in co-operation with the Faculty of Architecture of Minsk (Beloruss), the Alderman of the International Relation of the City of Florence and the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, from the 3rd to the 6th of December was held in Florence, in Palagio di Parte Guelfa, a Show-Competition of International Diploma Projects of the students of Politechnics of the Community of the Independent States (C.I.S.).

More than 100 diploma projects were presented to the public (either on panels and projected on sequenze on video) divided in thematic area (Architecture and Dwelling Houses, Design, Architecture and Industrial Building, Architecture of Public Building, Town Planning, Theory of Architecture, Restoration of the Architectural Objects); an international jury (made up also with the participation docents of the Faculty of Architecture of Florence) has selected the most representant for each area that was prized by the Foundation.

The show-competition up to today has always been held in the C.S.I. area (last 21-29 September was held the XII edition in Penza-Russia); the Florentine edition is the first absolute in the world outside the C.I.S. area and for this reason it was thought by the Foundation as an occasion to contribute to the mutual knowledge, to the exchange, to the dialogue and to the professional exchange of studies and teaching among the academies and the participants faculties.
The show-competition is supported by Vivahotels, Fleming Youth and Natali Multimedia of Florence.

During the period 23-30 November was held an exhibition of projects of 25 architects professors of polytechnics of Armenia, Bielorussia, Kazakstan and Russia, on initiative of the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the National Polytechnic of Bielorussia, Galina Polyanskaya, with the collaboration of the Faculty of Architecture in Florence. At the end of the initiative, in collaboration with the association New Musical Events of Florence, was held a Concert for Choir of Alfred Schnittke, performed by the Choir of the Russian State Chapel, directed by Valery Polyansky. It is a first absolute in Italy, of an opera based on devotional writings titled "The book of the lamentations" of the Armenian poet Gregorio of Narek of the X century and performed by the same Choir for the first time in 1986.
